Ok, this is just for the fun of entertaining the topic. He is riding a hot hand right now. Lets say Anderson is ready to jump in by Saturday in San Jose..or Tuesday in Minnesota, do you put Andy..or do you leave Hammond in?

Leave Hammy in while he's hot; he deserves the shot and there's no reason to rush Andy back, especially if there's any chance of risking re-injury.

The team is always good with letting Anderson take his time to heal properly so that doesn't worry me and Lehner needs some time off to hang out with his piranhas, sharks, and eels in Alfie's old house (no big deal).

Definitely Hammond. I don't think the Sens should be trading away Lehner or Anderson because of him, but he's earned starts until this hot streak ends.

FIRST STAR – ANDREW HAMMOND, G, OTTAWA SENATORS

Hammond went 3-0-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, .978 save percentage and two shutouts to backstop the Senators (27-23-10, 64 points) to a trio of victories. He denied all 25 shots he faced to record his first career shutout in a 3-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks Feb. 25. Hammond followed that performance with a 35-save shutout in a 1-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings Feb. 26, becoming the second goaltender in NHL history to post consecutive road shutouts against the Ducks and Kings (Steve Mason: Dec. 29-31, 2008). He then capped the week with 28 saves in a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks Feb. 28, helping the Senators complete a sweep of their road trip through California and extend their overall winning streak to a season-high five games. The 27-year-old White Rock, B.C., native has started all five games for the club during its current run, becoming the first goaltender in Senators history to win each of his first five career starts. Overall, he is 5-0-0 with a 1.18 goals-against average, .959 save percentage and two shutouts in seven career appearances.

Hammond is now on a historic run.

He is only two wins away from tying Frank Brimsek's record set in 1938 of being the only goalie in NHL history to give up two goals or fewer in 12 straight games. Hammond was only the third goalie to complete the feat of going 10 straight with his 34-save performance against the Islanders Friday night.

Hammond isn't worried about rewriting the history books personally. Instead, he'd like to help the Senators make a historic trip back from being out of the playoffs in February to qualifying for the post-season.

Andrew Hammond improved to 9-0-1 with a 1.44 GAA and .954 save percentage. According to Elias Sports, Hammond is the fifth goalie since 1972 to earn a point in his first 10 career starts, joining Semyon Varlamov (9-0-1 with WSH in 2008-09 and 2009-10), Patrick Lalime (10-0-0 with PIT in 1996-97), Bob Froese (9-0-1 with PHI in 1982-83) and Ross Brooks (7-0-3 with BOS in 1972-73).

Elias also says that Hammond is just third goalie in NHL history -- and the first since 1938 -- to allow two goals or less in 10 career starts. The others: Boston's Frank Brimsek (12 starts, Nov. 3-Dec. 27, 1938) and Detroit's Clarence Dolson (10 starts, Nov. 15-Dec. 13, 1928).

Although there's still a lot of season left, what do the Sens do for next year? I'm sure at least one team out there will offer Hammond a decent contract with at least a backup job. The Sens won't be able to match that offer as it stands right now. They tossed away a great goalie in Bishop in favour of Lehner/Anderson, will they do it again?
