  • Guaranteed Weirdest Hockey Story of 2015 (Thus Far)

The Philippines' financial capital Makati has been plunged into chaos with two politicians claiming to be mayor, forcing courts to close and delaying government business during a bitter stand-off triggered by graft claims.

If you follow the above sketchy link it will lead you to an article on the GMA website. GMA is essentially the CNN of the Philippines. I can spare you the reading by explaining that in Makati (the financial hub of Metro Manila) there is relative unrest as Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay has been suspended from duty and is holed up in city hall. Binay's deputy (and rival) Romulo "Kid" Pena has asserted himself as acting mayor during the suspension. Did I mention that Pena runs with a motorcycle gang staright out of an early nineties action flick? Cos he does. And that would be novel except this political standoff is taking place in the financial capital of one of the world's most populated countries.

So what does all of this have to do with hockey? Well check out the insignia on the Kid Gang's biker vests.

Look familiar? It should. It's the Tampa Bay Lightning's logo. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Sure they're thrilled to be indirectly and unsuspectingly involved in the unrest lol

What the actual hell is the TBL logo doing on their vests?! Hahaha, this is epically ridiculous!

        I have two theories:

        1) Google Image search 'lightning' and that'll probably be way up at the top (even on google.ph? I dunno)

        2) Lots of Filipino-Canadians send clothes back home to their families. I was amused by all the Sens shirts/hats I saw when I was there a couple years ago. But again, it makes lots of sense when you think of how large the migrant population is in Ottawa. There's all sorts of old sports apparel floating around so to me it seems plausible that someone inherited an old TBL shirt and just ran with it.

The first theory is more likely. That logo is only very recent.
