Former NHL enforcer Andre Deveaux had his contract terminated by Swedish league club Rogle BK following a brutal slash to an opponent prior to a playoff game on Thursday night.

The 31-year-old, who had short stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers, made what appeared to be an unprovoked attack on Vasteras IK captain Per Helmersson.

With footage surfacing yesterday of Andre Deveaux’s vicious attack on Per Helmersson before Thursday’s playoff game between Rogle BK and VIK Vasteras HK in Sweden’s second-tier professional hockey league, Deveaux has been officially released by his team, Rogle BK. Prior to yesterday, there was no footage of what started the pregame brawl between both teams, but now it is very clear what did. The former Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer is also having charges pressed against him by the victim in the incident, Per Helmersson.

This new footage of Deveaux talking to his assistant coach just prior to the attack makes some believe that he was instructed to do so, however, this may be hard to prove. We’ll keep you updated with more details as they come up.

That's really messed up. I'd like to know what his motivation was. Did he just snap? Is there any more info on this??

Considering this:

Deveaux was unapologetic after the violent incident and was allowed to play in his team's victory.

"He was fine. I'll think about him while I celebrate with the team," Deveaux said.

It looks like the nut case thought it was all fun & games...

An arrest warrant has been issued for Deveaux.

STOCKHOLM - Swedish prosecutors have issued a warrant for the arrest of Canadian former NHL player Andre Deveaux after he attacked an opponent on-ice before a promotion playoff between Deveaux's Rogle BK and Vasteras IK, the TT news agency reported on Tuesday.

The prosecutors acted after reviewing video footage of Deveaux, who has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers, rushing at Vasteras captain Per Helmersson from behind during the warmup and hitting him in the back of the leg with his stick before clubbing him to the ice.

Prior to the fifth game of a promotion playoff in Sweden’s second division, Deveaux skated towards Helmersson in a reported bid for retribution stemming from a Game 4 hit. Helmersson wasn’t injured, but reports Monday indicated he was considering pressing charges.

The attack in last week's game sparked an outcry in Sweden and has been described as the worst in the history of the domestic league.

Rogle, who won the second division game against Vasteras to advance to the first tier of Sweden's hockey league, fired Deveaux after the incident.

Wow just seeing this now...glad to see he's been criminally charged because that was assault with a deadly weapon.
